Spoonless.
The Future of Physical Therapy.
Physical therapy is hard. The Spoonless app makes it easier.
What’s the deal about spoons?
-
We're all here to tell you what the deal is about spoons and why you're hearing people talking about eating utensils. Spoon Theory was created by Christine Miserandino to describe what it feels like to live with limited energy.
Instead of thinking about energy as invisible, you can imagine it as spoons. Each spoon represents a unit of physical and mental capacity. Some days you wake up with a full drawer. Some days, you wake up already exhausted.
There's no science for measuring how many spoons someone has, but every single activity costs something, and when you run out, things don't get done. That's where Spoonless comes in. Spoonless is a way to visualize your energy and support how you best use it.

The problem is that 50% of American seek physical therapy at some point in their lifetime. And studies show that up to 70% of those patients do not complete their prescribed home exercise programs (or HEPs).
This is especially true for people with chronic pain, fatigue or cognitive differences. Most people are just trying their best, but they're too limited to keep up on their own, yet not disabled enough to qualify for additional support, they need to really thrive, not just survive.
There's very little help for this group, so they end up falling through the gaps.

Spoonless started with us supporting each other. In college I was really struggling. I have a connective tissue disorder, which means I'm constantly getting injured and my body requires ongoing physical therapy to function. Going into senior year, my insurance cut off coverage because I wasn't making enough. “significant progress”, without PT, I didn't know how I would finish school.
My physical therapist told me, you can continue the exercises at home, and I tried, but managing the exercises, remembering the sequences, tracking the progress, and adjusting routines to bad days: it felt impossible.
Enter Lily, who was determined to graduate with me.
They helped me track my exercises by creating a colorful spreadsheet to check off all the small wins. More importantly, they sat with me every day, helped me through my exercises and adapted my routines so we could check them off together. It made a huge difference. Lily lifted the cognitive load of physical therapy, so that I could focus on the physical strengthening part, instead of feeling overwhelmed or left behind.
We made it all the way to graduation and I even graduated with honors.
Unfortunately, after graduation, when Lily moved back home, I struggled to keep up the routine we had built together. I tried to find an app that worked, but nothing supported me in all the same ways. So we decided to build it ourselves. -
Spoonless is the support system we wish we had. The Spoonless Physical Therapy App is designed to support you through the moments when you're on your own. It's intended to help people manage their energy, remember what they were given by a provider or therapist, and actually return to it without feeling overwhelmed.
We use neuroinclusive design to organize exercises, movements, and care routines in a way that reduces cognitive load. Instead of holding everything in your head, Spoonless helps break things down into smaller, more manageable steps so you can focus on the physical work, not the mental juggling. Spoonless isn't about pushing harder or doing more. It's about helping people spend their spoons wisely. On low energy days that might mean doing less. On better days it might mean building consistency.
Either way, the app meets you where you are.

We chose to become a nonprofit because Spoonless was never meant to be a product that people have to earn access to.
The world isn't built for people with limited spoons (we like to call ourselves spoonies), and we didn't want to create something that left people behind because of barriers like money, insurance or energy.
When we explored a for-profit path, we found ourselves stuck in constant financial pressure, thinking about investors, pricing, and growth instead of the community we're part of. It pulled us away from the reason Spoonless exists in the first place, and it kept pulling us away from our mission.
As a nonprofit, we can put every dollar back into building support, improving access and growing a community of people who understand each other.
Spoonless is built for spoonies by spoonies. This structure lets us focus on care, trust and long term impact instead of profit.
-
Right now, we’re asking our friends and fellow spoonies to help us launch Spoonless into orbit.
You could consider pledging to our upcoming crowdfunding campaign, but not all support is financial. If you have time, knowledge, connections, or resources that you'd be open to offering, we welcome any aid. We believe people should give in ways that match their capacity, and the community we're building together.
